Studio Shiki - Long-established photo shop specializing in Maiko/Geiko Transformation
services: Studio Shiki has two service shops in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto.
Honten, the main shop, is located on the Kiyomizu-dera Ninen-zaka, near Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Kodai-ji Temple and the Gion district, where the flavor and quality of old Kyoto linger most tenaciously. Sakuraten is also near Kodai-ji Temple and Yasaka Shrine. Both shops are situated in the beautiful atmospheric places ideal for prettying yourself up as a Maiko girl for taking pictures, the unique service provided by Studio Shiki.
Maiko girls go to Kamiyuiyasan (Japanese hair salon) for putting up their hair in the Japanese style, and they usually must keep the hairstyle as it is for about one week. It takes several hours to do up their hair. Also they must experience some limitations in daily life. For example, Hakomakura (box-supported pillow) must be used instead of a usual one, and a large Zen-katsura prevents Maiko-san to wear clothes that are pulled over the head. Of course, shampooing is not allowed for the week.
On the other hand, Han-katsura is very convenient for customers to put up their hair in the Japanese style, and can be easily removed to revert back to their original hairstyle. Han-katsura is put on the rear half of the head and only the hair on the front half of the head is used for hairstyling. This method of hairdressing requires us to have a rich variety of techniques and experiences. We persist in using real and professional half wigs, although simple but unsophisticated Han-katsura are available in the market. We recommend trying our professional Han-katsura with the cost of 2100 yen (this is charged separately from the price of a selected plan; consumption tax included). Even our skillful hair stylists may need about 30 minutes to complete the hairdressing, but please enjoy our efficient and comfortable services.
In some cases depending on the length, color, and condition of hair, we may recommend using Zen-katsura (whole wig). All of our Zen-katsura wigs have been specially prepared by Yamazaki Katsura, Ltd. (a purveyor of Toei Satsueijo, Ltd) who provides most Katsura wigs for samurai dramas on TV and movie. We always keep 70 Zen-katsura wigs to meet various customer needs. Zen-katsura fits naturally and comfortably on the head, allowing customers to "transform" into a Maiko girl quickly, and the fact of wearing a wig is not detected on the photo. It takes only about 3 minutes to attach Zen-katsura, which can also be removed very easily. It would not damage the hair, and the customer can easily go back to her original hairstyle before leaving Studio Shiki. The fee for Zen-katsura is included in the price of a plan.B
Studio Shiki will provide services that meet our customersf expectations and needs, regardless of the type of wig desired, Han-katsura (half wig) or Zen-katsura (whole wig).
